Hello everyone! I have a layout to share today focusing on story telling. I saw a quote on a piece of artwork in a craft store a few weeks back that really resonated with me. The quote was "A house is made with walls and beams. A home is built with love and dreams." My husband and I purchased our first home about 3 years ago and we bought a fixer-upper. When we first bought it, it was in rough shape. But over the last 3 years we have put a lot of our sweat and blood into the house fixing it up and we have really created a place to call home. So I thought this quote was perfect and therefore decided to do a large title to make it the star of the layout.
I used the lower case alpha cut file from the Just Nick shop to cut out the quote from one of the patterned papers in the main kit. By the way, this layout was made with both the main and TN kits for the month of May! I then arranged them on the patterned paper that has the gorgeous orange ombre before lightly gluing them down and then stitching around each letter. This took some time but I did it while watching TV throughout the week and I just love the way it turned out.
It is a little difficult to tell in the photos but I used green thread for house/home, gray thread for walls/beams, and a very light blue thread for love/dreams. All other words have white thread. I wanted to highlight those three pairs of words so I thought using the different colors would be a nice touch! I also machine stitched some black thread under each of those six words as well to emphasize them even more.
I tore the paper along the line were the ombre ends and added a contrasting pattern paper on that side and use that blank space to put my photos. There also was a piece of ephemera from the TN kit that was perfect to place at the bottom of the photos and use some of the alphas from the kits to mark the date we purchased the house and took the pictures.
The May kits are packed full of embellishments so I used a lot of the small ones to sprinkle mostly throughout the quote on my page.
I love the final page and hope you find some inspiration from my layout to tell your own story on a layout you create!
And if you would like more details on how I made the layout, you can check out my process video here.
I hope you all have a great rest of the day and I'll be back to share another layout on the blog next week!
