Hello everyone! Today I'm sharing a project using the May kits and mixed media from my stash. I felt inspired by one of the papers in the main kit that has dark yellow scallops on a light yellow background. From that I decided to bring in multiple shades of yellow with just a touch of pink/coral for my mixed media. I used products from my stash which included Dylusions Ink Sprays, Shimmerz mists and watercolors, and Distress Oxide Inks. I prepped my page with clear gesso then sprayed and smudged all of the mixed media products until I was satisfied.
I knew I wanted to cut out the scallops in the yellow paper so I kept the mixed media at the top of the page so I could use it to really emphasize my photo. I then cut the yellow paper into four sections and fussy cut the top layer of scallops from each section before adding craft foam to pop each layer up to give it dimension. I felt the scallops that were fussy cut needed just a little something to give them definition so I used my white gel pen to outline each and I think that really made them pop.
Then came the fun part, embellishing! I used a lot of the puffy stickers and ephemera from the main kit to stick clusters around the photo and in between each layer of scallops. I also cut some flowers from the November 2016 exclusive cut files and backed them with vellum. One of my favorite parts of this layout is the flowers I made using the exclusive sequins in the main kit. I adhered dark blue sequins from the mix into the center of the clear flower sequins and sowed together 5 sequins to make a flower. I saw Lisa Fonseca sow the 5 sequins together to make flowers on one of her recent process videos for Pink Paislee and just loved them so I used the same process she did to make my own flowers for this layout. Be sure to check out her channel for more details on how to make them!
As a finishing touch, I added a 1/2 inch border around the page using one of the dark blue papers in the main kit. I think this really helps bring your eye in to the photo.
I hope you feel inspired to bring out your mixed media stash and get messy! I'll be back next week with another layout so until next time, have a great day!
