Hello everyone and happy Monday! I'm so thrilled to be sharing my first project with you as a member of the Clique Kits Spring/Summer Design Team! The focus of today's post is mixed media and I decided what better way to show case mixed media than with a mini album full of different techniques! I used multiple mixed media supplies from my stash, many of which I bought in the Clique Kits shop, and embellished the album with Clique Kit exclusive cut files and the April 2018 Flourish Kit.
To start, I instantly fell in love with the specialty acetate sheet in the kit and decided to make this my cover for the album. The first step is to trim the sheet to 6" by 12". Then using a bone folder, score the acetate at 5.25" and 6.75". This allowed for me to have a spine 1.5" in width. Fold the acetate along the score lines. I then punched 2 holes (4 total) for the rings 1" from the top and 1" from the bottom of the spine each about 7/8" apart. I then inserted 2 - 1" binder rings to hold my pages in the album. To keep the album closed, I sewed a button on the front and back cover with some bakers twine and left a long strand coming from the back button so I could wrap the leftover twine to the front button. The last thing I added to my cover was the gorgeous wood veneer frame that came in the kit as a focal piece. I also used one of the labels from the ephemera pack in the main kit as well as the beautiful rose gold alphas also from the main kit to stitch the title of my album. I used pop dots to secure the stitched label over the wood frame. I just love how it looks!
To dress up the spine, I combined two tassels from my stash, a charm from the Crate Paper Good Vibes collection that I bought as an add-on to February's kit, and the key charm we received in the very first traveller's notebook kit from Clique Kits almost a year ago.
For my pages, I cut white card stock to 4.25" by 5.875". I cut quite a few but you could do as little or as many as you want! I then prepped each piece of paper with clear gesso. I only used gesso on one side of the paper as I knew I wanted to sew my pages together but if you did not want to do that, I would suggest coating both sides with gesso. Once the gesso was dry, I went to town with the mixed media. I didn't worry about matching the kit or placement, I just played! And I did not worry about it being too clean as I wanted a messy and creative look.
Here is a list of some of the supplies I got from the Clique Kits shop. Many of these items are out of stock now but if you have already purchased them, I hope this project will give you some ideas on how to use them.
