This month's kit is just so beautiful that I couldn't wait to jump in! When I work on my first project with a new kit, I try to limit myself to just a few pieces or I end up with a project that I throw every single product in the kit on just because I am so excited. Anyone else have that problem with a brand new kit?
For this layout, I decided to start with a stencil that I had picked up recently that seemed like a perfect match for the gorgeous Illustrated Faith Gratitude Documented papers in this kit.
This particular leaf stencil seemed to match one of the leaves in the border strips that came with the papers and so that became my starting point. There was a black border strip covered with different colored and shaped leaves. I dug into my embroidery thread and found all of the coordinating colors. Using my stencil as a guide, I punched loads of holes and hand-stitched all of those gorgeous leaves onto my white yardstick background.
The beauty of hand stitching a detailed background is that the embellishments and additions to the rest of the page are often more simple to allow the details of the stitching to stand out. I added a piece of that gorgeous black border strip under my photo along with a pop of orange from another border strip to match the orange in my photo. I also flipped that paper over and used the striped paper on the back to mat my photo. Adding a couple of little black enamel hearts from the kit as well as two of my signature folded edges completed the look while allowing the photo and the stitching to shine.
As the final detail, I added the gorgeous Maggie Holmes "love you" puffy sticker right on top of my photo to serve as my title. I just adore stitching on my layouts and would love to see you give it a try too! Anyone else a huge fan of hand stitching on layouts?? Have a happy crafty day!!
